What God Did For Me!

“And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God. For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power: That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God” (1 Corinthians 2:1-5).

Last week I introduced a new blog titled “What God Did for Me!” (http://whatgoddidforme.blogspot.com). I created this new blog to give people a place to share their testimony about how good God has been to them. It is my hope that by reading their testimonies others will be inspired.

I spent a lot of time creating that new blog. I included some instructions on how a person could share their Christian testimony on the site. I even wrote an introduction to the new blog on this site.

Unfortunately, the one thing I forgot to do was give my own personal testimony.

I have to tell you that my friends who read my posting last week called me on that error right way. Several of them said they enjoyed reading my posting, but they were expecting to read my testimony as well. To them I say “Thanks for keeping me straight!”

I spent this past week trying to find just the right words to share with all of you.

First I thought about sharing how I first came to know the Lord. I was nine years old at the time. I don’t even remember having heard the name Jesus before then. My Aunt Gerry had come for a visit, and she asked me if I knew who Jesus was. I told her I didn’t know who He was, so she began to tell me all about Him. She also gave me my first bible. I have bought many other bibles over the years, but I still have that little black book. It is a reminder of the day I first learned about the Lord.

I also thought about telling you how I first accepted the Lord Jesus into my life. I was 16 years old at the time. The moment came as a strong emotional pull. I knew then that I had to accept the Lord into my life … and I did.

Another thing I thought about sharing was how years later I rededicated my life to God. I had fallen out of fellowship with the Lord over the years. I knew I was saved, but I also knew that I was not living the life He wanted me to live. It was then that I put aside most of my earthly goals and began devoting more of my time to spiritual endeavors.

Finally, I thought I could discuss how God called me to preach the Gospel. Talk about a life changing event!

Yes, as I sat down to write this posting I pondered on what kind of testimony I should share with all of you. It was then that my sister-in-law called and asked me what I was doing. I told her that I was preparing my message for the week and planned on sharing my testimony. I told her that God has been so good to me that I was having trouble deciding which testimony to share.

It was then that I knew what to write …

The Apostle Paul said it best in 1 Corinthians 2:4-5, “And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power; that your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.”

I realized that I didn’t need to come up with any eloquent words to explain how good God has been in my life. I just needed to tell you that He has been good to me. God blessed me by putting people in my life to tell me about Jesus. God put me in the right place at the right time to accept Him into my life. God redirected my life when I strayed away from Him. And, God continues to allow me to share my knowledge of Him with others. God has always been there for me, even if I was not always there for Him.  That is my testimony.

So, now that I have shared my testimony with all of you, I hope you will take the time to share your testimony as well. It doesn’t have to be long and drawn out. It can be as simple as “I was saved on (date)” or “God healed me from (illness).”

I look forward to hearing from you.  God bless you!
